Phil, thank you very much for the info!! I checked BBC site before Karen's birthday and I couldn't find this.
4-part? So new documentary? Are there new interviews?

Part 1 was very interesting...first time I ever heard Richard say that he had thought that Karen was so sick that she could pass away. _________________ Patrick |

I thought what Phil Ramone said about when Karen stayed with them in New York and about her wanting to be "pencil thin" was interesting, he said that he "froze the picture on the TV and drew around the outlines of the people with crayon" to illustrate to Karen how much thinner she was compared to the others on screen and asked Karen "Can you not see that?" but Karen said that she couldn't see it.
I thought there's no wonder that they were so frustrated by trying to help her. _________________ On the day that you were born

Thanks Phil. I checked the page after I read your first post.
Chris found "Yesterday Once More: The Karen Carpenter Story" in 2003. BBC broadcast as 1-hour program x 2-episode in January & February, 2004. Listening to Episode 2 was sad. It was Feb 4th here in Japan, I think.
Every interview sounds familiar. I remember even Mrs. Ramone's certain intonation. I remember I heard Episode 1 with other fans including this forum member. I still remember we talked like chat, listening to Radio 2.
I pulled out MD that I recorded in 2004. Exactly the same to me.
And I played the file from repeat in my computer with iPlayer. I heard until Yesterday Once More. Identical.
In summer of 2005 I found BBC would repeat documentary, I would like to listen to Carpenters Story in 2001, 4-week-special, but "Yesterday Once More: The Karen Carpenter Story" was nominated. Some of us voted and they repeat it in September.
Episode 2 may be the same. I'm looking forward to listening to Episode 3 & 4.
And I'd like to listen to the interview on BBC Radio 1? in 1982. Does anyone have whole interview? What did they talk about other than this time broadcast?

As one half of the brother-sister duo The Carpenters, Karen was one of the most talented, successful and enduring pop stars of her generation. Famous for songs such as Top Of The World and Superstar, their vocal harmony sound and their squeaky clean image, The Carpenters were the epitome of wholesome, happy, all-American youth. Yet in 1983 Karen Carpenter died suddenly from heart failure, the result of years of suffering with anorexia nervosa.
Through conversation and interviews with some of Karen's closest friends, school mates and music industry colleagues, Carpenter's fan Radcliffe goes in search of the real Karen Carpenter. Just listened to Episode 2.... so sad. Karen was in such denial for so long and covering up for herself to others. _________________ Patrick |
