I got this CD from an eBay auction (I can't believe no one else went for this, since it was listed under Herb Alpert), and this is a neat little album. It's a straight-ahead jazz affair, with some unusual frontline horns consisiting of trombone, bassoon and flute! I swear this is the first time I've heard any jazz bassoon solos! The rhythm section sets a solid groove on all selections. This has a very West Coast sound to it. A bit laid-back, but not smoooooth at all. Billy Higgins is a master on drums (he passed away last year), and keeps the band on track. This album was released in Japan, which is a bit odd, since it was recorded in Los Angeles at the Mad Hatter Studios. A very tasty treat!
